Every minute matters. Every opportunity has a window. And every neighborhood is filled with people, businesses, products, services, and opportunities that are constantly changing.
That's where SnagTimer comes in.
SnagTimer is a community-powered local marketplace designed to bring people, local businesses, and opportunities together in one place.
From discovering a last-minute deal to finding something nearby, requesting something you need, becoming a Regular at your favorite business, joining a neighborhood group, attending a local event, getting a task done, booking a service, or finding a place to live — SnagTimer helps you make more of your local community.
Snag it.
Get it done.
Keep moving.
Our Inspiration
SnagTimer was inspired in part by the movie In Time, where time becomes the world's most valuable currency.
We took that fictional idea and asked ourselves a different question:
What if technology could help people make better use of the time they already have?
We believe your time is valuable. You shouldn't have to jump between countless apps, websites, social media pages, and business platforms just to find something happening right around the corner. SnagTimer brings those opportunities closer together.
The First Marketplace Where Wasting Someone's Time Can Cost You
At SnagTimer, we believe time has value. When someone commits to buying or claiming something, there is another person on the other side of that commitment — someone who took the time to list an item, who may have turned down another buyer, who set the item aside, who is waiting for you to show up.
That's why SnagTimer uses commitment penalties for missed pickups.
It's not about profiting from no-shows. It's about making commitments mean something.
If someone claims an item and doesn't show up, the person who made that item available shouldn't be the one who pays the price for someone else's broken commitment.
The applicable penalty is shared between the person who made the item available and SnagTimer. Because your time matters. When you say “I'll take it,” we believe you should mean it.
Free Doesn't Mean No Commitment
This applies even when an item costs $0. If your neighbor is giving away a perfectly good chair, table, jacket, appliance, electronics, or anything else — and you claim it — please come get it.
Someone took the time to photograph it, post it, communicate with you, and set it aside. Don't let that effort end with “Never mind.”
Because when someone claims something and disappears, the next destination for that item may be exactly where we're trying to keep it from going: the sidewalk.
When you claim something — whether you pay for it or receive it for free — we encourage you to follow through.
Us vs. The Sidewalk
This is one of our biggest goals. Every day, perfectly usable items are thrown away simply because someone no longer needs them. Furniture. Clothing. Electronics. Appliances. Household goods. And countless other things that still have value to someone else.
Before you leave something on the sidewalk, we want you to ask:
“Could someone in my neighborhood use this?”
Maybe they'll buy it. Maybe they'll take it for free. Either way, give your community a chance to use it before it becomes waste.
We're building a world where the first place you think of when you no longer need something isn't the trash or the sidewalk. It's your community.
The Three Things We Believe
Your time has value.
Whether you're waiting for someone who never shows up, searching through multiple platforms for something you need, or traveling across town to find a product or service — we believe technology should help you spend less time looking and more time doing.
Your stuff has value.
Something you no longer need doesn't automatically become garbage. Your old chair could be someone's new chair. Your unused appliance could help another family. Before you throw it away, give someone else a chance to snag it.
Your community has value.
The people and businesses around you are more than addresses on a map. They're your neighbors, your local restaurants, your barbers, your stores, your service providers, your friends. SnagTimer simply helps you find and coordinate them.
Better for Communities. Better for the Planet.
When useful items stay in circulation longer, fewer valuable resources are wasted. SnagTimer encourages people to reuse, resell, give away, and keep useful products moving locally instead of sending them straight toward the landfill.
We don't claim that one app can solve global warming. But we believe millions of small decisions can add up.
One item reused. One neighbor helped. One less useful item thrown away. And eventually, millions of them.
We don't just want to move products. We want to keep value moving through communities.
Four Ways to Start Your Next Snag
Deals
Discover discounts and special offers from local businesses. Save money while supporting the businesses around you. And when you keep coming back, something more happens.
Regulars
Buy from a participating business more than three times and become a Regular. Reserve items or services ahead of time, and let the business know when you're about 10 minutes away so they can start preparing before you arrive.
On the Fly
When a business has something it wants to move right now — extra meals, end-of-day products, an immediate discount — On the Fly lets them post it in real time for nearby community members to snag.
Listings
See what's available around you and snag it before someone else does. When you claim an item, you have a responsibility to collect it within the agreed time — because someone is counting on you.
Requests
Can't find what you're looking for? Ask your community. Tell people what you need and potential sellers can respond with what they have, including pictures and prices — you decide whether to accept or reject an offer.
Buy → Return → Become a Regular → Reserve → Keep coming back.
More Than a Marketplace
Your neighborhood isn't just a place where you sleep. It's where you live, work, meet people, find opportunities, help others, and build relationships. That's why SnagTimer goes beyond buying and selling.
Groups
Create communities around your neighborhood, building, campus, or shared interests. Groups can organize purchases, request items, create events, and coordinate with one another.
Events
Discover and create affordable local events within your community.
Tasks
Need help getting something done? Post a task and let someone in your community claim it.
Book a Service
Request a service with your own budget and let businesses respond with their price and availability.
Sublets
Discover rooms and apartments posted by verified businesses and property providers, or let verified businesses respond to people looking for housing.
A Community That Works Together
We believe local commerce shouldn't feel disconnected.
A coffee shop shouldn't just have customers. It should have Regulars.
A neighborhood shouldn't just have residents. It should have Groups, events, businesses, services, and opportunities.
And a marketplace shouldn't just help you complete a transaction. It should help connect you with the people around you.
That's the community we're building.
What Makes SnagTimer Different?
We're not trying to build another social feed. We're not trying to create endless chat threads. We're not trying to make you download a different app for every local business.
SnagTimer is coordinated.
No unnecessary chat threads.
No jumping between five different platforms.
Just:
Choose it.
Commit to it.
Show up.
From New York City to Everywhere
SnagTimer was founded in New York City, a city where time matters, opportunities move quickly, and millions of people live, work, and build their lives within the same communities.
We're starting with a simple belief:
The next thing you need might already be right around the corner. You just need a way to find it.
And when you no longer need something? Give someone else the chance to snag it. Because we believe:
Your stuff has value.
Your community has value.
And we're building SnagTimer to help bring all three together.
